Un análisis de la cobertura informativa sobre inmigración de Telemundo y Univisión durante las elecciones presidenciales de Estados Unidos de 2020

Abstract

Este estudio analiza cómo dos medios televisivos estadounidenses en español realizaron la cobertura noticiosa sobre el tema de inmigración en medio de una crisis de salud pandémica mundial, conocida como COVID-19, y las elecciones presidenciales estadounidenses del 2020. La presente investigación centra su atención en la medición del efecto de la agenda setting entre los noticieros de Telemundo y Univisión. Los resultados indican que Telemundo elaboró un mayor número de notas periodísticas sobre migración que Univisión. El efecto de intermedia agenda setting presentó una correlación moderada positiva entre televisoras, demostrando que las características de sus noticias sobre inmigración fueron similares, pero no las mismas. Además, los resultados indicaron que los televidentes de Telemundo y Univisión recibieron diferentes informaciones noticiosas sobre inmigración. La correlación cross-lagged estableció que la dirección de influencia entre televisoras fue recíproca, sugiriendo que los dos noticieros se influenciaron uno al otro en relación con su cobertura sobre inmigración, pero la influencia fue más dominante de Univisión a Telemundo que al revés. La presente investigación documenta que el efecto de intermedia agenda setting sobre un solo tema y sus características descriptivas particulares puede ser medido en medios noticiosos étnicos utilizando esta teoría y en un contexto electoral.
